The Bill of Lading is the contract of carriage, the receipt and the condition report all in one. It is the single piece of evidence that matters if a damage claim is ever filed.
The driver marks existing scratches, dents, chips and cracks on an outline of the vehicle at pickup. Walk the car with the driver rather than accepting the diagram from across the driveway. Add anything missing before you sign.
Once you sign a clean delivery BOL, you have documented that the vehicle arrived undamaged. Inspect in daylight if at all possible, check the roof and lower rockers, and note any new damage on the document itself before signing.
Note the damage on the BOL, photograph it immediately, and contact us the same day. Carriers carry cargo insurance, and a properly documented claim is usually resolved without drama.
