Frequently Asked Questions

The questions McKinney customers ask most, answered plainly.

How much does it cost to ship a car from McKinney, TX?

Standard sedans on an open carrier typically run $400–$600 within Texas, $550–$800 regionally, and $900–$1,300 coast to coast. SUVs and trucks add $150–$350. Enclosed transport runs 40–60% higher.

Do I have to pay a deposit upfront?

No deposit is collected until a carrier is confirmed for your dates. Once a truck is assigned, a small booking deposit is charged and the balance is paid to the driver at delivery.

How long will pickup take after I book?

Standard pickup windows are one to five days. Expedited dispatch usually produces a truck within 24 to 48 hours.

How long is transit?

Roughly 500 miles per day of driving. Under 500 miles is one to two days; 1,000–1,500 miles is three to five; coast to coast is seven to ten.

Is my vehicle insured?

Yes. Every carrier we dispatch carries active cargo insurance and we verify the certificate before assignment. Your own comprehensive policy typically remains in force as a second layer.

Can I leave personal items in the car?

Up to about 100 lbs in the trunk is generally tolerated, but personal property is not covered by cargo insurance and excess weight can trigger DOT issues. We recommend shipping empty.

Do you ship non-running vehicles?

Yes, with winch-equipped carriers. The vehicle needs to roll, steer and brake. Expect an additional $150–$250; vehicles that cannot roll cost more.

What is the difference between a broker and a carrier?

A carrier owns the trucks. A broker or shipping agent has vetted access to thousands of carriers and matches your load to the right one. We are an agent, and we disclose that plainly.

Do you offer door-to-door service?

Yes, everywhere the truck can legally and safely operate. On narrow streets the driver arranges a nearby meeting point, usually a large retail parking lot.

What paperwork do I need?

Registration and proof of insurance in the vehicle, one working key handed to the driver, and photo ID at delivery. For third-party release, a short written authorization.

Can someone else release or receive the vehicle?

Yes. Provide the person's name and phone number in advance along with written authorization, and they can sign the Bill of Lading on your behalf.

What if my vehicle arrives damaged?

Note it on the delivery Bill of Lading before signing, photograph it immediately, and call us the same day. Documented claims against carrier cargo insurance are usually resolved without difficulty.

Do you ship motorcycles, RVs or boats?

Motorcycles yes, with dedicated equipment. Oversized RVs and boats fall outside standard car-hauler capacity, but we can often refer you to a specialized hauler.

Do you offer military or student discounts?

Yes — active duty, Guard, Reserve, veterans and college students all qualify. Mention it when you call.

What payment methods do you accept?

Card or ACH for the booking deposit; the driver typically takes cash, certified funds or card depending on the carrier. We confirm the method before pickup.
